New Castle will host the Black History 101 Mobile Museum’s Music of the Movement Exhibit, organized by the Lightkeepers of Henry County. The exhibition will take place at the Henry County Art Association gallery on Saturday, November 16, from 12 to 6 p.m. This presentation is made possible by a grant from the Henry County Community Foundation.
Founded by visionary educator Dr. Khalid El-Hakim, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum is the nation’s leading traveling exhibition of Black history. This immersive exhibit explores music’s profound impact on social, cultural, and political movements within the Black experience in America. It pays tribute to the rich history and legacy of Black music.
“The Music of Movement Exhibit will feature various cultural and historical artifacts, including vinyl records, press photos, clothing, flyers, and other memorabilia from iconic artists,” noted Mary Nicholson Tait, Director of Henry County Lightkeepers. “You’ll learn a lot and it’s going to be a fun time, too. We would like to thank the Henry County Community Foundation because, without them, we would not be able to bring the Black History Mobile Museum experience to New Castle this year.”
The public is invited to explore the Music of the Movement Exhibit on Saturday, November 16, from 12 to 6 p.m. at no charge. Dr. El-Hakim will deliver a presentation at 3 p.m. entitled “Music of the Movement: Celebrating the Impact of Black Music on Social Change.”
The Lightkeepers of Henry County are sponsoring this event with promotional support from Henry County Destination Development. Learn more about other activities and destinations in Henry County, Indiana, by visiting HoopsInHenry.com.
