The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame celebrated the grand reopening of its expanded museum on December 12. The museum is a tribute to the state’s rich basketball heritage and offers visitors a unique experience that goes beyond traditional exhibits. The expansion includes a new women’s basketball exhibit, a highlight reel of past state championship games, and increased archival storage space. Thanks to a partnership with Henry Community Health, Hall of Fame admission is now free.
The opening ceremony featured remarks from Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame executive director Matt Martin, President Donna Sullivan, and New Castle Mayor Greg York. Matt Martin expressed gratitude to Henry Community Health for their sponsorship, which enabled the museum to eliminate admission fees.
“We would like to formally announce and thank our partners from Henry Community Health for the partnership they have formed with our organization and the community,” said Matt Martin. “Beginning today, thanks to the generous partnership with Henry Community Health, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Museum will be free from here on out.”
New Exhibits and Upgrades at the Hall of Fame
The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame broke ground on its expansion on October 12, 2023, supported by a $1.97 million grant for Henry County’s Food and Beverage tax fund. The project, completed with the help of Holladay Construction Group and Browning Day, added almost 7,000 square feet to the museum.
The expansion also included renovations throughout the museum, such as new water fountains, computers, touch screens, software, office upgrades, a gift shop with updated merchandise, additional display cases, an expanded Enshrinement Gallery, and a revamped, free-to-play Make Your Last Shot exhibit. Visitors can explore interactive displays, view memorabilia from legendary players and coaches, and learn about the cultural significance of basketball in Indiana communities.
Indiana’s Enduring Basketball Legacy
President Donna Sullivan expressed her gratitude for the dedication of the staff and others who never gave up on the dream of expanding the Hall of Fame. She emphasized the importance of perseverance in achieving goals.
“Once said, don’t give up on your dreams or your dreams will give up on you,” stated Sullivan. “The staff and a lot of others never gave up on the dream to add to the Hall of Fame, and today, you’re going to see the results of that dream.”
The museum also features donated high school gym chairs from across Indiana, offering visitors both seating and a connection to the sport’s local roots. The Hall of Fame welcomes chair donations from any Indiana high school.
