Jacobs’ Family Orchard
Are you looking for a hot, fresh apple cinnamon donut? Jacobs’ Family Orchard has you covered. Pair it with a cold apple cider slushie, pumpkins, a hayride, a farm-themed play area, and a sunflower trail for the perfect day. Wagon rides to the orchard for apple picking are available on the weekends and every day for two weeks in October. Jacobs’ Family Orchard is open for the season until early November.
L & K Farms
During the fall, L&K Farms offers full-service and self-serve hours during their Harvest Hours. This makes picking up your pumpkins, mums, apples, veggies, and fall decor easy through October! L&K Produce also hosts fun annual events like Pumpkin Day and the L&K Fall Festival; vendors and food trucks are a part of these family-friendly events.
Whitetail Tree Farm
Whitetail Tree Farm is a great place to enjoy fall activities through the end of October. The 12-acre corn maze is a fun challenge for the whole family, and you can also pick pumpkins, meet farm animals, and enjoy apple donuts, cider slushies, iced coffee, popcorn, and more from the concession stand. There’s also an interactive area for kids with a pumpkin jump pad, tire mountain, slingshot, straw bale art, barrel train, human hamster race, ducky race, and more. Admission is free for children under two.
Belgian Horse Winery
The Belgian Horse Winery is a popular summer destination for outdoor concerts and food trucks. However, did you know that these concerts continue through mid-October? The weather is perfect for enjoying a show under the stars, with an autumn sunset over the cornfields as a backdrop. And, of course, no concert is complete without Carmel Apple slushies. The Belgian Horse is open year-round for its winery and food so you can enjoy their delicious offerings anytime.
Summit Lake State Park
Summit Lake State Park is bustling with activity in October! Their annual Fall Festival features a Touch-a-Truck event, fall crafts, and Truck-or-Treating. The park also hosts a Spooktacular 5k run/walk, Trick-or-Treating, Halloween campsite decorating contests, and pumpkin carving activities.
Henry County-New Castle Public Library
Your local library is a great place to find fall and holiday-themed events! The Henry County-New Castle Public Library offers regularly scheduled events for adults, youth, and children that creatively incorporate holidays and seasons. This year, they are hosting a Hocus Pocus Party for adults and a DIY Fall Stickers and Turkey Day for Teen Tuesdays.
Rose City Bowl
The Rose City Bowl is hosting a new fundraiser, “Cruzin for Humanity Car Show and Trunk or Treat,” on October 14, 2023. Show off your most incredible, best-dressed car to win a prize for Best Decorated Car or Best of Show Dash Plaque. Bring the kids for the trunk-or-treat! The cruise-in will collect blankets, coats, hats, gloves, and cash donations for the homeless population in New Castle.
Henry County YMCA
The Henry County YMCA organizes the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K every year on Thanksgiving morning. The Turkey Trot 5K is open to members and program participants. Families, strollers, leashed dogs, walkers, and runners are all welcome to participate. It’s a fun way to burn off some of those mashed potato and pie calories before you even dig in!
Henry County Fall Farmers Markets
Autumn has arrived at the farmers markets, which are brimming with glorious fall favorites. These markets are still open in October, and vendors are selling squash, caramel apples, sunflowers, pumpkins, baked goods, mums, and apples, in addition to regular products.
- Henry County Farmers Market is open every Saturday until the last Saturday in October from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Courthouse Square in downtown New Castle.
- Middletown Farmers Market is open every Friday until mid-October from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Tuff Stuff Lawn & Power in Middletown.
- Knightstown Farmers and Artisans Market is open every Saturday until mid-October from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Town Square in Knightstown.
